Crestor
US, Canada and Puerto Rico
Dealing with high cholesterol has become a very serious health issue over the past decade. In addition to diet and exercise, many people are given prescriptions by their physicians for cholesterol lowering drugs. Unfortunately, many of those prescription drugs have side effects that are just as serious as the original symptoms.
Manufactured by AstraZeneca, Crestor is the latest in member of the cholesterol-lowering drug family known as statins. As with any of the other statin drugs, Crestor is only to be prescribed along with a diet and exercise plan and if you meet certain other criteria as determined by your physician. AstraZeneca states that taking Crestor along with other medications, such as antacids, can lead to serious side effects. These side effects can include:
- Nausea
- Stomach pain
- Constipation
- Weakness
- Muscle pain
Crestor can also lead to kidney failure brought on by a form of muscle damage known as rhabdomyolysis. Rhabdomyolysis is defined as the breakdown of muscle fibers resulting in the release of muscle fiber contents into the bloodstream. These muscle fibers can be toxic to the kidney and often result in kidney damage.
If you are currently using Crestor and have any of the following symptoms, please contact your physician immediately:
- Muscle pain
- Weakness
- Tenderness
- Malaise
- Fever
- Dark urine
- Nausea
- Vomiting
